HISTORY OF OUR HOME
Brunswick Landing, formerly the Brunswick Naval Air Station, is home to Spark Cycling. The BNAS was built in 1935 as a part of the New Deal and commissioned in 1943 to help train the Royal Navy Fleet. More recently, 10,000+ service members called Brunswick home, flying in support of US and NATO forces and post 9/11 missions. After closing in 2011, the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Association began plans to repurpose the land and buildings, bringing new jobs and commerce to the area.
While our building resembles a bunker, it was used for HR and payroll services when the base was commissioned. The high windows were designed specifically for ‘discretion’ and a vault continues to have a home in one of the offices. At Spark we believe that what is old can be new again, that history makes for a rich community. We love honoring that history by investing in its future.
